The program is based off Luke 24:13-35, the walk to Emmaus. In this story, after Jesus’ death, two of his disciples are leaving Jerusalem in seaming discouragement. Along the path, Jesus draws near them and walks with them. However, their eyes were kept from recognizing Him. The two tell of the recent sad events of Jesus’ death and even say that some angels have told women of his resurrection. Jesus admonishes them for being so “slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!” He then interprets the scriptures to them and starting with Moses and all the prophets revealed the things concerning Himself. As they drew near to the village, they constrained Jesus to stay with them as Jesus appeared to be going further. At supper, Jesus, “took the bread and blessed and broke it, and gave it to them, And their eyes were opened and they recognized him; and he vanished out of their sight” The two “rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem; and they found the eleven gathered together and those who were with them, who said, “The Lord has risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!” Then they told what had happened on the road, and ho he was known to then in the breaking of the bread.
Our hope is that teens will similarly encounter and recognize Jesus as the two disciples did!
